Kirkland is centrally located about 5 minutes from Bellevue and 15 minutes east of Seattle on the shores of Lake Washington. From any of it's many beaches you can see world famous landmarks (Space Needle and Seattle skyline) and Husky Stadium. Sleepless in Seattle houseboats are only a quick 5 minute boatride away. Kirkland is laid back and welcoming of all peoples.

Kirkland's History
In 1886, Peter Kirk auctioned off his property and manor in England and headed to America to make a fortune. He ended up the Pacific NW. Enchanted by the water, he found Seattle and Lake Washington. It was the perfect place to build a steel town to support a mill - calling it the "Pittsburgh of the West".
The mill eventually went under but the city survived tough times by becoming a ship building town with the construction of ferries. Kirkland was the first city on the "Eastside" in 1888 and was incorporated in 1905.

Dining
Beyond the outdoor life, the essence in Kirkland lies with the city’s many cafés, pubs, restaurants and coffee shops. Northwest seafood, little wonder, is prevalent, with preparations as varied as the chefs, who herald from all over the world. The opportunies to dine al fresco with lake views seem endless.
Kirkland consists of several neighborhoods; ranging from Redmond on the eastside running west to the waterfront. Rose Hill, Downtown, West of Market, East of Market, Houghton, Juanita and Bridle Trails are all lovely neighborhoods and within seconds of main arterials, beaches, shopping, and schools
The Lake Washingtin School District and community work hand in hand to educate children. Lake Washington School District is fortunate to have strong community support in many forms, including volunteer participation, partnerships and funding.
